Recent riot in Ghuwayran prison | Surprise plan and many casualties among security forces and prisoners

The Syrian Observatory has disclosed new details about the recent riot by ISIS prisoners in Ghuwayran prison in Al-Hasakah city. According to SOHR sources, the prisoners set a plan with the purpose of braking down the walls of the prisons. The prisoners put soaked blankets on the walls of their quarters, and repeated this action so many times for two weeks until the walls started to break down.

The prisoners sneaked later from quarters and killed a member of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish), which pushed Asayish forces to open fire on the prisoners killing 16 and injuring tens others.

Reliable SOHR sources have confirmed that the riot reached to an end after the fruitful negotiations between representatives of the International Coalition and the prisoners, in which the Americans vowed to defray the financial costs of the prisoners’ demands.

It is worth noting that Ghuwayran prison hosts thousands of foreign ISIS members held by SDF.

On June 29, SOHR sources said that ISIS prisoners rioted in Ghuwayran prison controlled by SDF in Al-Hasakah city. ISIS prisoners demanded that their families be allowed to visit them in the prison and called for fair trials. The prisoners tried to break down the prison’s walls and doors, amid confirmed reports of casualties among prisoners.
