Largest death toll since mid-year| 13 members of al-Shua’tat faction killed in ambush by ISIS in Deir Ezzor

Deir Ezzor province: SOHR activists have documented rise in number of deaths of the regime-backed “Osoud al-Sharqeya al-Shua’aitat” faction to 13, while others sustained injuries in an ambush by ISIS in al-Masrib desert in the western Deir Ezzor countryside.

The accident caused the largest death toll in lines of the regime forces and their armed proxies since June.

Few hours earlier, SOHR activists reported that members of the regime-backed “Osoud al-Sharqeya al-Shua’aitat” faction, were killed in an ISIS ambush while they were combing areas near the salt mine in al-Masrib desert in the western Deir Ezzor countryside.

“Al-Shua’aitat’s” fatalities included six members and their commanded, and three wounded.

According to SOHR sources, gunshots were heard in al-Raqqa city, after the seven dead bodies were transferred to the city this night.

On June 5, SOHR activists documented the death of 23 regime soldiers in different areas of the Syrian desert in the past 48 hours in ambushes and explosions of landmines planted by ISIS cells which are prevalent in east Homs desert and the deserts of Hama, al-Raqqah and Deir Ezzor. The regime’s fatalities included an officer of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and his escort who was Iranian, as unknown gunmen opened fire on them while they were traveling on the road between Palmyra and Deir Ezzor in central Syria.

Since 24th of March 2019, SOHR has documented the killing of at least 1,593 regime soldiers and loyalists of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities, including at least three Russians, and 153 Iranian-backed militiamen of non-Syrian nationalities. All were killed in attacks, bombings and ambushes by the “Islamic State”, west of Euphrates in the deserts of Deir Ezzor, al-Raqqah, Homs, al-Suwaidaa, Hama and Aleppo.

Also, four civilians working in gas fields, tens of shepherds and other civilians were killed and documented by SOHR in the same period, from late March 2019 until today. They were killed in attacks by ISIS cells. While 1,081 ISIS members were also killed in attacks and bombardment in the same period.
