Rising tension | Regime-backed militias kill civilian and arrest his brother in area between al-Suwaidaa and Daraa

Tribesmen respond by attacking regime checkpoint

SOHR sources have reported that a regime-backed armed group have opened fire on the driver of a truck carrying gas cylinder in an area between Um Walad and Jbaib towns near the administrative border between al-Suwaidaa and Daraa, which resulted in the death of the driver. The group also arrested the victim’s brother who was escorting him in the truck. On the other hand, gunmen of Bedouin tribes from Jbaib area responded to the arrest of the civilian by attacking a military checkpoint of the regime-backed group, which killed the young man and arrested his brother, which left casualties among the regime’s group.

 

According to SOHR sources, that group known for its frequent attacks on Bedouin tribes which have been displaced from villages of al-Suwaidaa and al-Lajat.

 

Yesterday, SOHR activists reported that regime security services stormed tents near the town of Kharbet Ghazalah nearby the road to the city of Da’el in the central countryside of Daraa, on Saturday morning, where they killed a young man and arrested his brother and another person for unknown reasons. It is worth noting that displaced people from the al-Suwaidaa tribes lived in those tents.

 

Accordingly, the number of people who were killed across Daraa province since the start of the recent agreements has risen to 56. The fatalities were distributed as follows:

 

  • 31 civilians, including a child, some of them were former fighter and gave up fighting after striking reconciliation deals in 2018.

 

  • 25 regime soldiers, members of the Russian-backed 5th Corps and regime “collaborators”.

 

Since the beginning of the security chaos in Daraa in early June 2019, Syrian Observatory activists have documented more than 1,242 attacks and assassination attempts by gunfire and detonations of IEDs, motorcycle-bombs and car-bombs. These attacks and assassinations claimed the lives of 898 persons, categorised as follows:

 

  • 278 civilians, including 14 women and 26 children

 

  • 403 regime soldiers, loyalists and collaborators with regime security services.

 

  • 155 fighters of factions that struck “reconciliation and settlements” deals with the regime and became in the ranks of regime’s security branches, including former commanders.

 

  • 27 Syrian militiamen affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian forces.

 

  • 35 members of the so-called 5th Corps which was established by Russia.
