ISIS resurgence: Islamic State captures areas in Al-Sukhna and nearly 50 people killed among regime forces and ISIS members

SOHR activists say that the Islamic State has captured houses in the city of Sokhna in Homs desert, after fierce battles with regime forces and loyalists, accompanied by heavy ground shelling on the clashes’ areas. The death toll among both sides has risen to 49.

The Syrian Observatory has documented the killing of 27 people among regime forces and loyalists, while at least 22 members of the Islamic State group were killed.

The Syrian Observatory monitored this morning a large-scale offensive by ISIS members on regime and loyalists’ positions, accompanied by exchange of fire between both parties and airstrikes by Russian jets on frontlines and other positions in the desert.

The death toll since late March 24 to date has risen. The Syrian Observatory documented the death of at least 410 members of regime forces and loyalists of Syrian and non-Syrian citizens, including at least two Russians.

In addition to 75 members of Iranian-backed militias of non-Syrian citizens, all were killed in ISIS attacks, IEDs and ambushes in the western Euphrates, and the desert of Deir ez-Zor, Homs and Sweida.

SOHR also confirmed the death of four civilians working in the gas fields as a result of the group’s attacks, and two shepherds were killed in the group’s attacks,

The Syrian Observatory has also documented the death of 146 members of Islamic State, during the same period, in attacks, bombings and targets.
