Death toll said likely to go up as some of those wounded in serious condition

At least eight pro-Iran militias, none of them of Syrian origin, were killed in an alleged Israeli strike last Tuesday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said Saturday.

Updating the death toll, the war monitor said the figure could still rise as some of those wounded in the attack were in a serious condition.

The strike reportedly targeted the south of Damascus, the Syrian capital, hitting the positions of Iran-backed militias in the are and their ammunition depots.

According to SOHR, the more recent Israeli strikes in Quneitra left four people wounded, including two Syrian army soldiers.

The strike came in retaliation for an earlier attack from the Syrian territory which resulted in some material damage on the Israeli border as the projectiles went off on the Syrian soil after failing to make it into Israel.

Tensions have been rising on Israel’s north after Ali Kamel Mohsen, a Hezbollah commander, was killed in the Damascus strike.

The Lebanese Hezbollah and its supporters have vowed revenge, prompting Israel Defense Forces to bolster the country’s northern border.

Israel also reportedly sent a message to Hezbollah, warning it against further escalation; according to a Kuwaiti newspaper, this message had been relayed by Russia.
